Educational Program:

Betty Bautista, VAPNA President provided a very informative presentation and discussion on 
the treatment of Type II Diabetes.  Pathophysiology and various types of treatment for diabetes
was discussed.  Handouts included: Executive Summary: Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes 
in 2010, Diabetes Minimum Practice Recommendations, and Glycemic Control and Insulin 
Algorithms for Type II Diabetes in Children and Adults.

Business Meeting:

Several VAPNA members attended the CNAP (Coalition for Nurses in Advanced Practice) sponsored Legislative Day at the Capitol in  Austin on March 1st.  Elizabeth Huerta, Monica Hernandez, Edith Castillo, and Hilda Solis were in attendance. Elizabeth stated that the meeting prior to talking to the legislative assistants was very informative.  The group met with the staff of both Eddie Lucio and Veronica Gonzalez. The message the ladies brought back was that there is a health crisis and we all need to get involved or at least donate money to CNAP.

Becky Rankin announced that she is finishing up her second term as the TNP (Texas Nurse Practitioners) Valley Representative and needs someone to replace her. Several of the upcoming
NP graduates spoke to her about the position.

Betty announced that the next meeting will be on April 1st at 6:30 P.M. at Tony Romas.  Dr. Ofsman Quintana, Cardiologist, will speak on Peripheral Vascular Disease: Early Diagnosis and Treatment.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. Seminar committee members met for
a short while after the regular meeting.
